What is multimodal exercise and why is it important?

Dr Diane Cooper from EduFIT delivered a health education workshop about the importance of multimodal exercise and how to structure your training week for maximum effectiveness. Multimodal exercise means doing a variety of exercises. There are four main types of exercise: aerobic exercise (e.g. walking or running), resistance exercise (e.g. lifting weights), flexibility exercise (e.g. stretching), and balance exercise (e.g. One legged exercises). Each type of exercise gives you different benefits (see image below), so by doing them all, you get the most benefit possible . All of the 40-minute exercise classes as part of the Wellness UnLAOISed programme are multimodal. Click here to access a FREE 40-minute exercise video.

This resource was created for week 3 of the #wellnessunlaoised programme. Wellness UnLAOISed is designed and delivered by EduFIT in partnership with Laois Sports Partnership and Offaly Sports Partnership and funded by Sport Ireland.
