We are a very happy team this morning reading the testimonials from our 6-week ‘Beginner to 5kgs’ programme 😆. 

From day 1 the interest in the ‘Beginner to 5kgs’ programme from women aged 35-70 years in Laois was phenomenal! The programme was fully booked within days of recruiting and we actually had to turn people away as we were fully booked 🤯. 

This programme was a resistance training and health education programme for middle-aged and older women and it was delivered online and in-person. It was free for participants as it was funded by Sport Ireland in partnership with Laois Sports Partnership – thank you both so much for investing in this programme🙏. 

The commitment and dedication from participants throughout the 6-weeks was second to none. Participants were asked to complete 2 x 40-minute strength training exercise classes per week and 1 x 20-minute online health education workshop.

This ‘Beginner to 5kgs’ programme was delivered as a research study. We will share our findings with you as soon as the research paper is published. We are conducting this research in collaboration with Dr Siobhán O’Connor from the School of Health and Human Performance in DCU. You can read more about our published research HERE.
