Are you hydrated?

Are you hydrated? Water is essential for every function in our body. It regulates our temperature, supports digestion, and keeps our skin health.

Good hydration is important for everyone, especially women going through menopause.

We lose water constantly through breathing, sweating, and daily movement. Losing even a small amount of body water (1% to 5%) can cause headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps, and poor concentration. It can also disrupt your body’s temperature control, making hot flashes feel worse.

It is important to monitor your hydration throughout the day. You can easily check this by looking at the color of your urine.

Clear or pale urine means you are well hydrated, while dark, strong-smelling urine is a sign that you need more fluids.

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommends a total daily intake of 2 litres of water for women.

About 20% comes from foods (like fruit, vegetables, and soups), while the rest should come from drinks such as water, herbal teas, milk, and coffee.

Keep in mind that you will need to increase your intake in warmer climates or during intense exercise.

Water remains the best choice!

Always carry a refillable water bottle with you so you have easy access to water wherever you go.

Top tip: Using a reusable straw can make drinking regularly even easier!
